  • The band at North Carolina’s East Duplin High School can finally get back on its feet in the wake of last year’s Hurricane Florence–and it’s all thanks to Barry Manilow! The singer revealed last week in Las Vegas that the school’s band was the grand winner of his Manilow Music Project and would receive $100,000 for new instruments and uniforms. “You guys are just great,” Manilow said in a video announcing the grand prize winner and runners-up. “Thank you for your passion, your heart and your talent.” Schools had to submit a video to enter the contest. Band director Thomas Seaman said in the school’s four-minute submission video, “In the past three years, I don’t think we’ve gotten even $10,000 total.”
